Black Sheep Brass Band is rooted in music spanning generations. You've most likely heard of the big band era (Tommy/Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, etc.). Maybe you've even heard of Traditional (Trad) Jazz and Bay Area Funk? BSBB blends all of these genres and more.

BSBB is based out of Sonoma County, in the North Bay Area of California. Together, they have come to distill their own jazzy/funky flavor to the world, a unique sound known as #BRASSfedFUNK, a blend of New Orleans Jazz and Northern California funk.

From the uptown to the get-down, it's time for the Black Sheep to vibrate y'all to the good sound, all around.

Band Happenings

Est. 2009

2024 has been a fruitful time for Black Sheep Brass, performing around the West Coast at many public and private party gigs. BSB has also been focused on writing new music for ya'll and they released their new single, "Funktify It" earlier in the year. Stream it on all platforms!

Black Sheep Brass returned to the High Sierra Music Festival June 29th-July 2nd, 2023 for a second year in a row! They performed at the Vaudeville stage, and in each parade: Friday eve, Saturday AM and Sunday eve.

Black Sheep Brass Band was recognized by the NPR Tiny Desk Concert Series as "purveyors of over-sized sounds". With horns, saxophones, and drums that get people moving and grooving on any occasion, BSBB has continued to receive recognition for their funky, original tunes. In 2017 BSBB had the honor of being selected by NPR to perform alongside Tank and the Bangas, during their National Tour stop in Petaluma, CA. BSBB has also shared the stage with these other notable acts: Les Claypool, Railroad Earth, MarchFourth Marching Band, LowDown Brass Band, The Polish Ambassador, Ayla Nereo, California Honeydrops, among others.

Black Sheep Brass Band is stoked for the future as 2017, 2018 and 2019 have been increasingly successful adventures into the field of BRASSfedFUNK. Filled with service projects, awards, fundraisers, and incredible concert opportunities, BSBB have been privileged with the opportunity to grow each subsequent year. In 2017, the band finished their original EP (funded by winning the Creative Sonoma Grant). They were publicly recognized by NPR, embarked on two West Coast tours - to Southern California in February and then to the Pacific Northwest in June. BSBB performed at four different festivals, and played a variety of other gigs - large and small. From private weddings and seminars in Silicon Valley, to intimate clubs and festivals, BSBB has averaged 3 gigs a month, totaling over 35 gigs this past year. BSBB has performed another 30+ gigs in 2018, and have booked and successfully completed their first International Tour, which was to Guatemala in March of 2018 (see videos in gallery).

With their diverse gig history and refined BRASSfedFUNK sound, BSBB is a soulful band, fit to play any event. Their all-acoustic, New Orleans Jazz/Hip Hop marching band influenced style, brings a dance party wherever and whenever - on and off the stage.

In 2022, the band wass excited to continue to expand their music catalog, with the release of their first full length album on 3/4/22, "The Ram Ewe Love", they also embarked on their second international tour Jan/Feb. 2022 (first time in Mexico), planning their tour up to the PNW and to HONK! Fest West - May 31-June 5th. BSBB is super stoked to have the opportunity to perform at the High Sierra Music Fest June 30-July 3rd after being crowned the winners of the HSMF band contest in 2022!
